A new report issued by GSA, the Global mobile Suppliers Association, spotlights the accelerating growth of HSDPA-enabled devices. According to the GSA survey, there are now 311 HSDPA-capable devices available to the consumer market, more than six times the number reported in last year's survey. The range of devices identified in the report includes:

The number of suppliers increased from 16 to 71 in the same one-year period. In addition, 63 HSDPA devices now support (or can be upgraded to) a high-speed downlink capability of 3.6 Mbps peak--according to the GSA, 66 operators have commercially launched or are deploying 3.6 Mbps data capability across their networks, with some networks now delivering 7.2 Mbps (peak) commercial service (a speed supported by 42 devices).

"We have been reporting on HSDPA device developments since May 2005, at which time just 12 products were announced," said GSA President Alan Hadden in a prepared statement. "One hundred eighty-three new devices have been launched so far in 2007. The milestone we announce of 100 devices operating in the 850 MHz band is an important catalyst for extending HSPA to all markets across the Americas."
