Mobile technologies and products provider NextWave Wireless announced it is shipping samples of its new NW1000 Series WiMAX chipset to consumer electronics and mobile device manufacturers. The chipset comprises the NW1100 baseband system-on-a-chip, matched NW1200 multi-band RFIC and associated system software, and promises wireless device manufacturers a platform to create next-gen WiMAX mobile terminal products.
Features of the platform include:
- IEEE 802.16e standards protocol
- Support for PCI and SPI host interface
- Optimized RF-baseband interface for reduced BOM cost, ease of design, and optimized performance
- Integrated direct conversion RFIC architecture
- Support for scalable channel bandwidths from 1.75 MHz to 20 MHz
- Support for major worldwide WiMAX spectrum allocations of 2.3 GHz, 2.5 GHz and 3.4 - 3.8 GHz
- Support for integrated MIMO
- Mobile broadband services optimization
According to NextWave, the NW1000 Series chipset and reference designs are a critical component of the firm's strategy to provide advanced, end-to-end system solutions optimized for mobile multimedia applications such as mobile TV, streaming audio and video, and video surveillance to mobile terminal OEMs and ODMs.
