Sprint Nextel announced a dozen members of the operator's fledgling Professional Developer Program have completed certification of their applications. An extension of Sprint's Application Developer Program, the Professional Developer Program provides advanced tools for members to create, test and certify mobile apps for use on Sprint devices--capabilities include access to the majority of the carrier's restricted APIs (GPS, address book and messaging), dedicated technical support and access to the certification process.
According to Sprint, CellTrak Technologies is the first PDP member to earn certification. Its CellTrak application enables home care and hospice providers to schedule their visits and locate staff as they travel from home to home via GPS technology, improving patient satisfaction, reducing errors and facilitating accurate reporting of visit data, mileage and related information. CellTrak ported their application from Nextel phones to Sprint phones to meet the needs of their growing customer base.
The other 11 PDP members to complete certification of their applications are:
- Acuity Mobile: Its eMAP embedded mobile advertising platform offers businesses a context-based marketing solution enabling what the firm calls "Spot Relevance"--i.e., content targeting based on consumer or loyalty program data and user location. Check out a video demo. [1]
- Blue Systems: Its blue mobile real-time financial market data application offers professional and retail investors global stock market information around the clock.
- ChaCha: Its free mobile answers service allows subscribers to pose any question in conversational English and receive an answer as a text message in a few minutes.
- Citrix Systems Inc.: Its XenApp Plugin for Windows Mobile devices promises that applications start up to 10 times faster, improving the user experience while lowering application management costs by more than 25 percent over previous versions.
- MobiWatch: Its personal safety services enable users in need of assistance to press the button on the Bluetooth MobiFob to speak with professional emergency responders who provide assistance based on each customer's confidential personal profile and real-time location tracking.
- Oomble: Its mobile client interacts with the company website to provide users a real-time view into the content residing on their mobile devices, enabling subscribers to manage their mobile photos, personal music and related content without ever touching the phone.
- ROAM Data: Its ROAMcommerce app allows direct selling professionals to enter orders, perform inventory lookup, check commission status and process credit cards and personal checks in real time via mobile device.
- SnapNow: Its SnapApp mobile visual search application provides mobile marketing solution linking images taken by any camera phone to content on the mobile web in much the same manner that conventional search engines connect words to search results.
- Useful Networks: Its Sniff friend-finder social networking application enables registered, consenting friends to locate each other and coordinate plans via location-based technology.
- WellDoc Communications Inc.: Its Measures of Success services promise to help make life easier for asthma sufferers.
- YouCaddy: Its application targets golfers with GPS range-finding, course maps, game tracking and replaying, and discounts on greens fees and equipment.
Sprint adds that along with the 12 companies earning Professional Developer Program certification, there are 17 other PDP member firms now testing new products to reach certification as well as another 25 companies in the process of earning membership.
