Access announces next-gen Palm OS

Tools

Access, the Japanese company that purchased PalmSource last year, has announced the next generation of the Palm OS. Is it the long-awaited Palm OS 6 (Cobalt)? Well, no. Access has decided to rebrand the OS as Access Linux Platform (ALP). ALP will still run Palm OS 5 (Garnet) apps, but will feature apps written using the new MAX framework, which does not look or act like Palm OS. New goodies for developers include: a new browser, a GIMP toolkit and SQLite. Devices with ALP should be available in early 2007. Release
