BlackBerry Storm software update coming May 31
Roughly six weeks after Verizon Wireless first announced plans to release an over-the-air software update for the BlackBerry Storm, the operator finally confirmed the update will begin rolling out May 31. AppScout reports a Verizon email promises BlackBerry Storm OS version 4.7.0.148 is a bug-fixing and feature-enhancing upgrade that "improves the overall user experience." Users may download the update beginning at 3 pm ET Sunday via the www.blackberry.com/update website, or wait until 10 pm ET and go to Options/Advanced Options/Wireless Updates directly on their Storm device.
Version .148 first leaked two weeks ago. The update includes a series of enhancements designed to fix a host of known Storm user issues resulting in unresponsive devices, intermittent resets and multimedia snafus. (A member of the Crackberry.com user forum posted the full change log here.)
In mid-April, Verizon Wireless said it was poised to issue BlackBerry Storm update 4.7.0.113, but the operator's labs proceeded to reject several versions of the update, the latest in a series of problems hampering the notoriously buggy touchscreen device. Verizon Wireless launched the Research In Motion smartphone in November, and while many Verizon retail stores sold out immediately, reports soon surfaced that the Storm suffered from multiple bugs, including freezes, abrupt reboots, non-responsive controls and cosmetic glitches. The Wall Street Journal later reported RIM and Verizon rushed the Storm to market despite known OS issues.

Anyone try to download it? I think the system must be overloaded.
I managed to update my phone via air with no issues...4.7.0.148. Now the true test is to see if it really improves my use.
Before installing the new update, you must take the battery our of the phone while powered up and then insert it back. Make sure you have enough memory also for the up grade...need 12mb to do so...UPDATE..SO FAR,SO GOOD...love the new POTRIAT FULL KEYBOARD
It takes awhile, but try doing it over night while you're sleeping. You will need a couple of hours after its painfully slow downloading for it to set up, so you can't use it. But the browser runs alot faster, and there are some nice adjustments to make things alittle easier on it. (Just some small details/buttons)
I've been checking all day and it still shows that there is no update for me :(
Did you go to Options/Advanced Options/Wireless Updates on your Storm device? I did and I'm downloading it now. First I had to delete some personal data on the device to make room in memory for it. - Sue
Can u tell me how to remove data i can't figure it out
I just completed the download from the Storm device and it only took 9 minutes.
Is there a list of the changes that the update made to the Storm? If so, is it accessible online?
I have had a hard time with the new software. It has scrambled my Outlook Contact email addresses and erased all of the meetings on the calendar. Did anyone else have this problem??
I have been trying to download update, and it gets so far, and then it tells me, I don't have enough space, it tells me to delete 3.8 mb of personal data, I don't even have that much on it, Is anyone else having this problem
you probably have to delete some applications and then reload them after the download. I had to delete quite a bit to get the download complete. The after, I was able to reinstall everything that I needed.
I tried downloading via phone and it did not work. Downloaded with my computer and installed; it worked find and didn't take that long.
The update made things worse for me. Takes about 8 seconds to notice you have turned the Storm sideways (to display the landscape keyboard, for example). Very slow to recognize the key pressed which makes typing almost impossible except for short SMS. Much worse than the original software, and it was poor. Unless I find a solution, I\'ll switch to the iPhone. Not sure why my upgrade (and a few other users) gave such poor results while others seem to like it.
I downloaded the update straight to my phone, it took no longer than an hour and already I'm noticing a huge difference in my phone's performance. I had big problems before with the abrupt rebooting, constantly I'd be in the middle of doing something and my phone would either reboot or crash and I'd have to pull the battery. So far, this update seems to have resolved those issues. Another thing is that the phone's touch screen seems to be much more accurate, and even when texting it's now easier to go back and edit (there's a new feature that shows up like a small rectange around the spot where you're modifying the text).
I have had my upgrade and now the picture quality on the phone is terrable, its very dark and has lines running up and down it. I can hardly see the applications on the sides as they are so dark. Anyone any idea how I fix this?
is this phone and the upgrade worth it? seems like there are better offerings out there including iPhone. Why bother with this mess?
