Forum Nokia names game dev contest winners

Tools

The Forum Nokia global developer support program announced the winners of its Mobile Games University Competition, awarding the top honors to New York City's Parsons The New School for Design and the Upper Austria University of Applied Sciences. The winners were selected from 44 mobile entries from various Forum Nokia PRO universities worldwide, and will receive a trip to this week's Game Developers Conference in San Francisco.

Parsons' Weekness, developed by students Drew Cogbill, Yumi Endo and Rabia Malik, is founded on the concept of shared SMS activity, resulting in social interactions that reflect individual communication styles to extend the functionality of text messaging into a game. User generated content also plays major role in gameplay. Weekness is developed for Flash Lite 3.0 and the Adobe Flash Lite Distributable Player. The Upper Austria University's MooLan, developed by Michael Holzl and Bernhard Aufreiter from the school's Department of Mobile Computing, is a space shuttle pilot maneuvering game which exploits handset accelerometer and proximity sensors as well as the device camera. The concept is adapted from the classic Moon Lander game.
