MySpace to support Windows Mobile, Silverlight

Social networking giant MySpace announced its support for Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating system and Silverlight browser plug-in, with plans to debut a new WinMo-optimized MySpace application this summer. According to MySpace, the forthcoming application will feature a user-friendly interface and deliver rich content and data, integrating familiar social features and functionality with the Windows Mobile OS.  MySpace adds that with the introduction of Silverlight into the MySpace Open Platform, developers now have the latitude to create applications with a more customized look and feel via the flexible skinning of controls and data. The new MySpace application will be available on Windows Mobile 6.1 phones later this summer, with a downloadable version introduced on Microsoft's new Windows Marketplace for Mobile app storefront in the autumn. Device maker LG will also preload the MySpace application on its Windows phones beginning in the second half of 2009.

On April 2 at 1:30 pm PT, MySpace and Microsoft will present a 50-minute development session at the Web 2.0 Expo taking place in San Francisco. The session will focus on how developers can build Silverlight applications on MySpace using the Open Source kit for Silverlight.
