Report: Sun, Samsung at work on "Java phone"
South Korean newspaper JoongAng Ilbo reports that Sun Microsystems and Samsung Electronics are jointly developing a mobile phone slated to challenge Apple's iPhone. Quotes attributed to Sun Chairman Scott McNealy indicate the alliance will produce a "Java phone" that promises improved functionality over the iPhone at a reduced price--contacted for additional comment, Samsung spokeswoman Lee Soo-jeong said "no decision has been made regarding co-development of the Java phone." While she confirmed that meetings with Sun have taken place, she offered no additional details.
