Sony Ericsson planning Windows Mobile smartphone?

Tools

Chinese newspaper The Commercial Times is reporting that handset maker HTC has been commissioned to design and manufacture a Windows Mobile-based smartphone for Sony Ericsson. If the reports are true, the ODM order--said to total more than one million units, accounting for 10 to 20 percent of HTC's total forecasted shipments for 2008--heralds a major about-face for Sony Ericsson; the company presently bases all its smartphones on the Symbian OS, which it co-owns. Additional details, including features and MSRP, are currently unknown.
