T-Mobile Dash (HTC Excalibur) Tips and Tricks

Tools

Intro

The T-Mobile Dash is a branded version of the HTC S620, a Windows Mobile 5.0 smartphone that is perhaps better known as the "Excalibur."

Hacks

Unlocking the JOGGR

T-Mobile disabled the Exclaibur's side JOGGR switch for everything but the volume control. However, brave Dash owners can fully re-enabled the JOGGR with a simple registry hack. Sure, the JOGGR still looks like just a volume control, but it still functions just like the unlocked Excalibur's switch, for better or worse. A word to the wise: if you make the change, hang on to that registry editor; many people find the JOGGR hard to use. Download a registry editor and read the instructions (see this forum if you're still confused). An XDA-Forums user also has a .NET CF apllication that claims it can make all the changes for you.

Using Standard Headphones

The T-Mobile Dash sports an extUSB connector, a proprietary piece of HTC hardware that is not compatible with standard headphones. The phone comes with a set of stereo headphones with built-in microphone, of course, but they're not great. The good news is that Smartphone Thoughts has found a $16 convertor (marketed for the HTC TyTN, but compatible with the Dash), that lets you to plug in a standard set of 3.5mm headphones. Just don't forget to unplug it before you try to answer a call.

SIM Unlock Codes

T-Mobile has a rather progressive policy on providing SIM unlock codes to subscribers, but rumor has it the process has become a bit more tricky with the Dash. If you're in a hurry, imei-check.com can unlock your Dash for 20 GBP (about $38).

Can anyone tell me how to create a folder in my email so that I can save email messages? I can't find a way to create new folders to sort my messages and save them. Thanks!

Can anyone tell me how to create file folders in my email? I am trying to sort and save my email messages on my TMobile DASH (Excalibur) Thanks

Has anyone found the folder where the ringtones are stored? Can't seem to locate.

I believe you can add ringtones to \Application Data\Sounds\

left softkey "start"
find "File Explorer" and select
scroll to "My Ringtones"
you can copy and paste mp3s when sync(ing)

I have "synced" my music and they are in the Dash's library under my music. I am having a problem making them ringtones. Just got my phone and don't know how to do that yet. Could you help. Thanks

how do i download music to my dash i am a super noob and dont really know how to make the best use of this machine/pda phone.

If you've got the songs on your storage card you might need to copy them onto the device in my documents or my ringtones... thats how i do it im not sure whether you can use a song on your storage card as your ringtone...

If you're trying to put songs onto the device, plug it in via the usb cable, open activesync, then click explore, then you can copy the music straigt from your computer onto the phone =)

This is correct. Just synced new ringtones to \application data\sounds

oh, and I found the best way to do it is through your pc, if you swap from a memory card to phone, you will be doing it forever because you will have to to it one at a time. Save yourself trouble and you can do multiple via your computer. Its worth it.

all i did was went to file explorer, then my ring
tones, then u go to storage card if u have any music on it, copy the song paste it in my ring tones, then back out go to settings then sounds, an it will be in ring tones just scroll threw select it then press done, then u good

SOLUTION:
Music and ringtones from your storage card *without* copying them to phone's internal storage!

Most of the instructions here tell you to put copies of the mp3/wav files you want to use on the "Sounds" menu in various folders *on* the phone. It's not necessary. Put all audio files you want to use as sound events on your Storage Card in the My Documents folder(it has its own). The phone will still list them as options for your ringer, alarms, etc. HTH!

Eli is correct.

I just got a Dash. How do you access \Applications Data\Sounds\

I'm trying to set a fixed BCC back to my corporate email account. There is no BCC, does anyone know of a patch or hack to add this feature?

You can have ringers put anywhere on the storage card or in the main memory of the handset. Doesn't really make a difference, but it's easier to put them in the root.

~Cheers~

252MHz Dash w/Japanese Language Support

Go90go,

I have a need for Japanese language support on my Dash. I'm having trouble finding what I need to do this. How did you do yours?

Thanks.

i was wondering if you hade some soft waire editor... like on the t-mobile dash.. insted of having the screan minue bar blue to change it to white.. or red..

and is thire a way to get more out put when you are usning it as a modom for your pc?

i been shirching... but only found free games for it (kinda useless when you put dvd's on it)

Yea heres's the site.
mobile.surrealnetworks.com
check that out you can download a hack that will let you control your processor speed therefore getting ALOT more out of your internet speed.

can anyone tell me where i can get some games for the dash, and also, why is it that i have microsoft word, but i cant start a new document only open ones off of my pc.

Anybody know how to set the URL for tzones? It worked when I first got my dash - then suddenly stopped working. T-Mob says they "can't guarantee" that tzones will work without purchasing the internet access package - but I swear to you it worked great without it, 'til something shut it off...

I still don't know the URL for t-zones; however, I did find this site:
http://tmobileusotw.wdsglobal.com/

It's the T-Mobile Wireless Data Configurator. I followed the steps there (under "Configure your device", not "Configure a laptop or pda") for the T-Mobile Dash.

While I still can't access t-zones via the button on the phone, I can use it through IE.

Now to figure out how to get it to work with the button...

first try upgrading the software to windows mobile 6.0 i had the same problem then i upgraded software and it works perfect now. if that doesn't work contact 611 and have them troubleshoot it.

For clarification on the reason I'm asking about a URL: when I press the t-zones button, I get only three items. If I then select Menu/2 Options/1 General, there is a textbox for "Home page:". It is set to http://help.wap.t-mobile.com/ and I am unable to change the value (it's grey'd out).

Is that set in the registry, maybe? Or by T-Mobile?

i downloaded a small video (mpeg4 5430 kb)....it plays back very choppy.....any suggestions

Yes, get pocketnester plus and play nintendo games there.

I can play nintendo games on my dash?

Explain the use of "joggr." Is it similar to the scroll button on the side of a blackberry?

how did you go about downloading the vid?

i don't know how to get ringtones on my dash, and i think i have looked everywhere on this phone.

you can also go to www.funformobile.com and select media search, and the type in the name of the song.

Its always easy to bluetooth the ringtones. You will not be able to download them through t-zones. There is also a site I like to use.

Can somebody tell me how to shut off that stupid ring in Yahoo IMS? It happens everytime I get message. I tried going to settings>sounds and shutting it off there but that didnt seem to work. Help!

can u tell me how to download game to my dash

What type of games your searching?

I've tried adding my music as a ringtone, but it wouldnt let me. how can i add it as music

how do you get the myfaves software to work on the fone without having a myfaves plan?

Regedit... HKEYLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\MY5\SMSC\CMDGET\STATEREQUEST..
>VALUE>CLIENTUIONOFF>VALUE DATA TO 1

how do i set my voice command button i go into voice command, select button and all it says is app1 thru app9, record and none???HELLLPPP...

you cant the phone looks for the plan then turn on the software, but even if you did the minuet counter would still charge you for the calls , you have to have the plan for the my faves to work..

where do you go to download all genres of ringtones for htc dash

I go to mobango.com, download the ringtones onto the PC, then use ActiveSync to put them on the Dash. Once there, I also beam them to my wifes Razr over bluetooth, saving on those ridiculous fees ATT wants to charge for ringtones.

wap.voicestream.com is tzones address

i have a new message but i am not able to open it. is there any reason why? its starting to get fustrating and i just got the phone yesterday

I know what you mean. I have had mine for 4-5 months and although I get around it pretty good, sometimes it still messes with me. Hit the back button several times until it won't go back anymore, then open the "text" screen. Then you should be able to pull it up from there, or through "Menu" then "Folders". It is kind of crap as you should not have to go through so many hoops for a text message.

To get music,
1) Get a micro SD card
2) get a usb/Micro SD writer
3) put the music on the SD
4) put the sd in the dash
5) go to start
6) file explorer
7) use the soft key to go up till you are at the root directory "\"
8) then click on application data
9) then sounds

This is the folder that your ring tones are in

10) hit the softkey for menu
11) go down to storage card
12) highlight the song you want
13) menu
14) copy
15) up to root
16) application data
17) sounds
18) menu
19) paste

it copys the song to that folder

wen i hit the softkey for menu there is nothing that says storage card wat can i do.....i already removed it n tested it on my nokia 6133 and the music and video files r still in there but my dash wont read the damn micro sd

not scrolling down far enough

same thing for me
