AT&T launches Z9

AT&T has inked a carriage deal with Motorola to offer the handset maker's GPS-centric MOTO Z9. The slider is available for $150 with a two-year contract and after a $50 online discount. The phone comes enabled with AT&T's TeleNav service, which it rebranded as AT&T Navigator. The handset also includes a microSD slot, stereo Bluetooth and quad-band GSM with support for 3.6Mbps HSDPA data. The Z9 is also the first Motorola handset to support AT&T's IMS application: Video Share. -Brian

Verizon, Sprint offer BlackBerry 8830

It has long been assumed Verizon would be picking up the BlackBerry "Cyclone" 8830, but now word comes that Sprint Nextel will soon offer it as well. The 8830 offers an unfortunately rare feature: it's a GSM/CDMA hybrid that can automatically switch between the two technologies. It also support EV-DO and includes a microSD slot, though no camera. T-Mobile has launched the Motorola KRZR K1, one of several devices intended to succeed the RAZR. The GSM version of the KRZR lacks 3G data and costs about $150 after rebates with a new contract.

Nokia N77: a new TV phone

Nokia last week released the N77, a slick new DVB-H TV phone. It's got 2GB of built-in memory and WCDMA 3G network support, along with EDGE and tri-band GSM. The phone runs S60 Third Edition and is expected to cost €370 unsubsidized when it goes on sale in the second quarter of 2007.

FCC approves Nokia E65

The FCC has approved the Nokia E65, a new slider S60 phone aimed at business users. The phone is only 14mm think and boasts 802.11b/g connectivity as well as quad-band GSM and WCDMA. It's expected to sell in Europe for about €340.

Palm to announce new Treo next month

Palm has confirmed that it will announce a new Treo in the U.K. on September 12. Details are sketchy, but rumors suggest the new device will be the Treo 750 shown in this blurry picture. The phone is expected to be announced for Vodafone and, eventually, for Cingular in the U.S. The GSM phone is rumored to include a 1.3-megapixel camera and support UMTS, HSPDA and possibly even Wi-Fi. It's been almost exactly one year since Palm announced its first Windows-powered Treo.

HTC's new BlackBerry-killer

HTC is working on a BlackBerry-killer (or is it Q-killer?) codenamed Excalibur. The outward design leaves a bit to be desired, but Excalibur possesses plenty of inner beauty with quad-band GSM and integrated Wi-Fi.
